Say No to BURNING Leaves and Yes to BURYING Leaves too...

Burning litter and waste is same as burning our atmosphere. Most of the waste produced by everyday human activity can be recycled and put to better use in various forms.

St. Mary’s School, Dwarka, a green school focuses and inculcates the core value of Reusing and Recycling. With a goal to spread this value, we executed an activity from 1st July 2022 to 7th July 2022 to understand the importance of burying the leaf-litter in a vermicompost site instead of burning it openly, thus causing air pollution.

Eco Club students of std. VIII, under the supervision of their teacher, took the initiative and prepared a small vermicompost site. All the waste leaf-litter collected in the school was added to the vermicompost pit along with few species of worms. This was left for few days. Following week, it was noticed that the waste had decomposed. 

This decomposed matter contains water-soluble nutrients and is a good, nutrient-rich organic fertilizer and soil conditioner. It is used in gardening and sustainable, organic farming. At the end of this activity, we came to know that burying leaf-litter is a viable option than burning it. 

We plan on to take the key learning of reuse and recycle from this activity to everyday life and hope and urge everyone to follow and do their best to keep the air clean.

  It is obligatory for vehicle owners to get their vehicles checked for the pollution their vehicles are emitting. It is our social and moral responsibility to spread awareness on how we can keep a check on the pollution that is caused by we humans. World Environment Day on the Theme - 'Only One Earth'

  Based on the theme ‘Only One Earth’, The Climate Reality Project (India) celebrated ‘World Environment Day’ with the launch of a month-long summer workshop “Planet needs Green Jobs!” for student community focusing on Green Jobs. The students were invited to understand future projections of clean energy, sustainable agriculture and many more such streams. The four webinars were organized on four Saturdays in the month of June, 2022 from 5 th -25 th June, 2022. The experts from various national/international organizations joined and shared insights on the work they are doing to inculcate suitability practices to prepare the student community for the times ahead. Fifty students of our school from Std. IX-XII were registered and participated in these webinars. Their involvement in such programs is a step forward towards a greener, more prosperous planet.

Anti-Tobacco Day @Awareness Programme about the World Tobacco Day

  Anti-Tobacco Day was celebrated on 31 st May 2022. To create awareness among the students about the World Tobacco Day, HRIDAY organized a short video making competition in the month of May, 2022. The theme of the competition was ‘Tobacco and Environment’. Students of St. Mary’s School, Dwarka participated diligently. Swastik Jindal stood 1 st in the video making competition and received a gift voucher of worth Rs. 5000/-. A few clips of the video - On this occasion , a Power Point Presentation was shown to the students of Std. VI-XII to discuss the causes and effects of consuming tobacco.  On this occasion, the students and teachers took an e-pledge-‘Say Yes to Life, No to Drugs’, through a weblink. They committed themselves to consciously cooperate in stopping drug abuse and stay away from drugs to live a healthy life.
