 Seed Collection Drive

As part of this movement and with an objective to inculcate importance of protecting the environment and planting trees, St. Mary’s School, Dwarka organised a 'Seed Collection Drive'.  A ppt was shown and the teacher discussed about the importance of trees to protect nature. Seed collection is the first step in an extensive process that brings new plant materials to address individual resource concerns. The students of Std IV were oriented about the different seeds they need to bring for the plantation drive, as collecting seeds from several parent trees assures a diversity among seedlings being planted. The students collected various seeds such as mango, jamun, litchi, tamarind etc. They washed, dried, and brought it to the school in a dry bag to sow. This activity enabled the children to realize the importance of trees and how they can contribute in safeguarding the environment.

Role of Plants in Improving the Air Quality

        ‘Pollution is nothing but the resources we are not harvesting.
    We allow them to disperse because we have been ignorant of their value.’

The teacher introduced this activity by holding a brainstorming session with the help of a ppt to instill the concept of air pollution. Then the class teacher had a discussion on the role of plants in improving the air quality.

The objective of this activity was to:

* sensitize children about the causes of air pollution and its ill-effects to the
   environment.

* strengthen the concept that trees play a significant role in controlling and
   improving air quality.

* make children aware of the health hazards due to air pollution.

* motivate children to think about two solutions to reduce air pollution at an
   individual level.

Holiday homework was introduced and discussed. Students were asked to make a ‘Comic Strip’ on the topic ‘Effect of air pollution on health’. They were encouraged to think out of box ideas. Then they were told to write in their EVS notebook about any two solutions to reduce air pollution at an individual level. They took great enthusiasm and enhanced their creative skills to present their work. The comic strip consisted of pictures and dialogues. Children learnt and pledged to take care of the environment.


‘Stop polluting and Start planting.’



Children sowed the seeds and took care by watering them regularly. They daily observed their growth from a seed to a sapling. Then they brought the saplings and planted it in the botanical garden of the school. All the children pledged that they will take care of the saplings. The happy smile on their faces reflected that they wish to make this earth a better place to live.

      ‘Time spent amongst tree is never wasted time.’

  It is obligatory for vehicle owners to get their vehicles checked for the pollution their vehicles are emitting. It is our social and moral responsibility to spread awareness on how we can keep a check on the pollution that is caused by we humans. Taking this responsibility into account, the students of class VII of St. Mary’s school, Dwarka, conducted a survey to check the air pollution certificate of their relatives, neighbours, and school teachers . As an outcome of this survey, the students found that there were some people without pollution certificate, some kept an expired pollution certificate while there were some who had an updated pollution certificate. World Environment Day on the Theme - 'Only One Earth'

  Based on the theme ‘Only One Earth’, The Climate Reality Project (India) celebrated ‘World Environment Day’ with the launch of a month-long summer workshop “Planet needs Green Jobs!” for student community focusing on Green Jobs. The students were invited to understand future projections of clean energy, sustainable agriculture and many more such streams. The four webinars were organized on four Saturdays in the month of June, 2022 from 5 th -25 th June, 2022. The experts from various national/international organizations joined and shared insights on the work they are doing to inculcate suitability practices to prepare the student community for the times ahead. Fifty students of our school from Std. IX-XII were registered and participated in these webinars. Their involvement in such programs is a step forward towards a greener, more prosperous planet.

Anti-Tobacco Day @Awareness Programme about the World Tobacco Day

  Anti-Tobacco Day was celebrated on 31 st May 2022. To create awareness among the students about the World Tobacco Day, HRIDAY organized a short video making competition in the month of May, 2022. The theme of the competition was ‘Tobacco and Environment’. Students of St. Mary’s School, Dwarka participated diligently. Swastik Jindal stood 1 st in the video making competition and received a gift voucher of worth Rs. 5000/-. A few clips of the video - On this occasion , a Power Point Presentation was shown to the students of Std. VI-XII to discuss the causes and effects of consuming tobacco.  On this occasion, the students and teachers took an e-pledge-‘Say Yes to Life, No to Drugs’, through a weblink. They committed themselves to consciously cooperate in stopping drug abuse and stay away from drugs to live a healthy life.
