Van Mahotsav @ Air Pollution by Std. II

Air pollution is a major concern of cities , which has a serious toxicological impact on human health and the environment. It is considered as the major environmental risk factor in the progression of some diseases such as asthma, lung cancer, psychological complications, autism, fetal growth, and low birth weight. The best way to reduce air pollution is the practice of planting trees which provides a lot of benefits to the environment and helps with the release of oxygen.

A brainstorming session was conducted by the teacher with the help of a PPT, to discuss the concept of air pollution in detail. The teacher explained about-

*   How to sow seeds

*   Steps to grow a plant

*   Necessary conditions for the growth of a plant

*   Some plants that can be easily grown at home by sowing their seeds.

An array of activities were conducted to make the students experience the working of nature.
“Trees remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and reduce the greenhouse gas effect, all while providing us with clean air to breathe."

Then, the importance of growing plants and trees was explained to the students. Also, how trees breathe in pollutants like carbon dioxide, and breathe out oxygen for us to inhale. It’s a pretty neat cycle and is crucially important to living systems.

Later, students were encouraged to be a part of “Code Green Team” of our school and asked to bring different seeds from home which were later sown in the school garden. The Seed Collection Drive was a great success as students volunteered in large numbers.

Further, the students were encouraged to keep some indoor plants like Aloe Vera, Snake Plant, Spider Plant and Bamboo Palm etc. that can help us to get clean indoor air.

This was followed by the Holiday Homework Activities which were based on importance of growing plants. Students were encouraged to sow a seed in a pot at home and to water it regularly.

Thereafter students were told to take good care of their plants and click pictures with their respective plant every alternate day. The students had a hands on experience and were really excited to watch a seedling grow. They were happy to share their personal experiences in the class.

The students completed both the assigned tasks willingly with great zeal. It was a great learning experience for them.
