 Orientation of the Team members

The Earth and its environment are facing a serious threat by the increasing pollution of the air, water, and soil—the vital life support systems of the Earth. Any activity that violates the original character of nature and leads to its degradation is called pollution. To raise awareness about planting and saving trees among the students, a PowerPoint Presentation on 'Air Pollution-Causes and Effects' was shown to the students. For taking it a step further an SDG Air Pollution Project was given to the Std. V students during their summer vacation.


Brainstorming Session on Air Pollution and Air Quality Index

Trees are considered “decentralised green infrastructure” and act as an important tool for managing water, especially in an urban ecosystem. Trees play a substantial part in tackling the climate crisis. Trees are of vital importance for ecological, cultural and economic well-being. While explaining the side effects of air pollution, the students will also be explained about the importance of planting plants, not just to reduce air pollution but also to make sure they have a healthy future.


PLANTATION DRIVE

“He who plants a tree, plants a hope”

Plantation is an important activity to make our environment greener and cleaner. By helping students learn every aspect of tree planting and care, from picking a species to putting it in the ground and everything in between, it becomes second nature to them. 

To raise awareness and consciousness about planting and saving trees among the students, an SDG Air Pollution Project was given to the students of Std V during their summer vacation in the 1st and 2nd week of June. The holiday homework related to ‘Plantation Drive’ was introduced to the students. The students were asked to grow few plants at home and make pots from things that could be arranged from their surroundings. The students were also asked to maintain a record of the growth of the saplings and take care of them. They participated with great excitement. This initiative helped the students to learn how to preserve biodiversity, conserve water, save soil and control climate.


PLANT DONATION DRIVE

                                         “Give out what you most want to come back.”

To create a sustainable environment, we need to take responsibility and make sure that the future of the upcoming generation is not in danger.

To encourage the students to donate the plants grown by them and to spread awareness amongst the people, an SDG project was given to Std V students during their summer vacation in the 3rd and 4th week of June. The students donated/gifted the new plants to their relatives/friends and neighbours grown by them. They participated in the drive enthusiastically and shared their pictures, experiences and feedbacks. They were happy to donate their little saplings to their loved ones.


CELEBRATING VAN MAHOTSAV

‘Trees exhale for us so that we can inhale to stay alive’

Our country celebrates many festivals and have various mythological stories related to forests and trees. One of the most celebrated of them is ‘Van Mahotsav’, a celebration that is dedicated to Mother Earth in order to protect our life support. Keeping in mind the need of combatting the environmental threats, an SDG Air Pollution Project activity was conducted in the class on 6th July 2022 (Wednesday). The activity was conducted in the class by hanging the photographs pasted in the scrapbook on a thread and decorating the class with the same.

  It is obligatory for vehicle owners to get their vehicles checked for the pollution their vehicles are emitting. It is our social and moral responsibility to spread awareness on how we can keep a check on the pollution that is caused by we humans. Taking this responsibility into account, the students of class VII of St. Mary’s school, Dwarka, conducted a survey to check the air pollution certificate of their relatives, neighbours, and school teachers . As an outcome of this survey, the students found that there were some people without pollution certificate, some kept an expired pollution certificate while there were some who had an updated pollution certificate. Thereafter, these people were made aware of the harmful pollutants and its quantity, their vehicles emit and how they can keep a check on these emitted pollutants to help save the environment. World Environment Day on the Theme - 'Only One Earth'

  Based on the theme ‘Only One Earth’, The Climate Reality Project (India) celebrated ‘World Environment Day’ with the launch of a month-long summer workshop “Planet needs Green Jobs!” for student community focusing on Green Jobs. The students were invited to understand future projections of clean energy, sustainable agriculture and many more such streams. The four webinars were organized on four Saturdays in the month of June, 2022 from 5 th -25 th June, 2022. The experts from various national/international organizations joined and shared insights on the work they are doing to inculcate suitability practices to prepare the student community for the times ahead. Fifty students of our school from Std. IX-XII were registered and participated in these webinars. Their involvement in such programs is a step forward towards a greener, more prosperous planet.

Anti-Tobacco Day @Awareness Programme about the World Tobacco Day

  Anti-Tobacco Day was celebrated on 31 st May 2022. To create awareness among the students about the World Tobacco Day, HRIDAY organized a short video making competition in the month of May, 2022. The theme of the competition was ‘Tobacco and Environment’. Students of St. Mary’s School, Dwarka participated diligently. Swastik Jindal stood 1 st in the video making competition and received a gift voucher of worth Rs. 5000/-. A few clips of the video - On this occasion , a Power Point Presentation was shown to the students of Std. VI-XII to discuss the causes and effects of consuming tobacco.  On this occasion, the students and teachers took an e-pledge-‘Say Yes to Life, No to Drugs’, through a weblink. They committed themselves to consciously cooperate in stopping drug abuse and stay away from drugs to live a healthy life.
