Investigatory Project
Class IX
Air Pollution and Health

As the famous saying goes, “Be a part of the solution, not a part of the pollution”. It’s high time for the mankind to leave their self-interest behind and work collectively towards the control and prevention of air pollution. Today the air we inhale is polluted and has irreparable damaging health effects on us.

To sensitize the students of Class IX of St. Mary’s School, Dwarka about the adverse effects of harmful pollutants, brainstorming session was conducted, in the classroom in the month of May. Its aim was to create awareness among the students about global health concerns.

Students took keen interest in the discussion and understood the hazardous effects of air pollutants like nitrogen dioxide, sulphur dioxide, ammonia, ozone, and particulate matter on our ecosystem. To take the awareness drive forward, students of Class IX were given an investigatory project as summer holiday homework in the month of June on “Air Pollution and Health”. Students prepared an investigatory project on the effects of short-term and long-term exposure of air pollutants on human health. Students researched about various harmful air pollutants and risk associated with specific air pollutants in detail. Graphical representation, pie charts and pictures were used to support their findings.

Analysis of the investigatory project was done in the first week of July. It was very effective, as students got a clear picture of the prevailing environmental health hazard. The project also helped students to understand the various preventive measures to tackle the problem of air pollution.
