Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by Shatvik Smit

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), often known as the Global Goals, are a set of 17 interconnected global goals aimed at achieving a better and more sustainable future for all. There has been progress in some areas, according to the 2019 SDG progress report, but it is not quick enough. Climate change, conflict, and inequality are all stumbling blocks to progress. It is high time for us to put Sustainable Development Goals into practice. The United Nations General Assembly (UN-GA) established the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015, with the goal of achieving them by 2030.They are included in the UN-GA resolution called the Agenda 2030. There are 17 SDGs, which are:

  • No Poverty
  • Zero Hunger
  • Good Health and Well-being
  • Quality Education
  • Gender Equality
  • Clean Water and Sanitation
  • Affordable and Clean Energy
  • Decent Work and Economic Growth
  • Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
  • Reduced Inequality
  • Sustainable Cities and Communities
  • Responsible Consumption and Production
  • Climate Action
  • Life below Water
  • Life on Land
  • Peace, Justice and Strong Intuitions
  • Partnerships for the goals

This year, our school chose SDG-3: Good Health and Well-Being, which I am proud of. SDG-3 strives to guarantee that people of all ages live healthy lives and are happy. The objectives for SDG-3 are as follows:

  •  A firm commitment to stop AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, and other communicable illnesses, epidemics by 2030.
  • Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.
  • Substantially reduce the number of deaths and illnesses from hazardous chemicals, as well as  pollution and contamination of air, water and soil
  • Reduce premature death from non-communicable diseases by one-third through prevention and  treatment, while also promoting mental health and well-being by 2030

Many scientists believe that if we continue to deplete our resources at the current rate, the earth will no longer be fit for life in the next century. It is our job to manage our resources wisely in order to provide a better living for future generations. Nations should focus on sustainable development, and people should put their best effort into achieving these objectives. We will have to unite and work together to become the change that the world desires.
