Beware of Air by Urvashi

BEWARE OF AIR

Air Pollution- The Largest Threat To Life

How does it feel getting choked?

"Yet, air quality continues to deteriorate despite the increase in laws and regulations seeking to address air pollution" says UNEP Chief Inger Anderson. According to WHO report around 7 million people worldwide die every year from the toxic air pollutants.

There's no silver bullet that can address the air pollution crisis. More than 90 per cent of the global population is breathing unhealthy air. Strokes, heart disease, lung cancer, acute and chronic respiratory disorders have been linked to outdoor air pollution. Thus, there's a need for the hour.

In an endeavor to be a change maker, we, the students of St. Mary's school, Dwarka registered our Code Green Team in a prestigious campaign Youth for Earth. This campaign provides an opportunity for youth to showcase their environment-friendly activities and tell the world that the change starts  with them. The theme adopted by us is Air Pollution-SDG 3 (Good health and Well-being ).

Our team has worked extremely hard to participate in this and to be the

champions. We are aiming to reduce air pollution and  provide our society  with clean air. CODE GREEN is involved in collecting the Air Quality Index (AQI) data from various locations,  assessing where pollution is most prevalent, and developing various strategies to  minimise pollution and raise public awareness.

We are also trying to educate our school mates about  the scenario through presentations and videos. Our school is uundertaking various projects regarding  air pollution. Members are questioning  random students to find out  how much  they know about the current issue and

what their thoughts are on how we can  handle it. Our staff even liaise  with asthmatic children to  learn moreabout how pollution  affects them. We  are  all  working hard as a force to combat the

negative impacts of pollution  and offer  a safe environment for everyone.

WHY IT COUNTS? SDG-3(GOOD HEALTH AND WELL-BEING)

Without the assurance of a good quality of life for its population, nation-building is difficult. SDG GOAL-3 is to  ensure a healthy life and promote well being for everyone ,regardless of age. It desires that people live long and healthy lives. It's as challenging as it is complicated. It has committed the global village to a global effort to eradicate disease, strengthen treatment  and health care, and  identify new and emerging health challenges.  It calls for a strong focus on mental  health issues as well as significant reductions in air, water and soil pollution. It also assures that everyone has access to kosher medicines and  immunizations.

Feelings of well-being are crucial to the overall health of the people . Sensing the risk of dominant air pollution, we decided to make an effort to minimize the blow of prevailing air pollution in our

society and around the world because of the rising  number ofdiseases and fatalities, as well as the difficulties it cause in our everyday life.

INDIA- LAND OF AIR POLLUTION

Air pollution is a major health concern in countries  like India. People are finding it more difficult to live a tranquil and healthy lifestyle as the number of  elements contributing to pollution grows.

The repercussions for children are dire. Asthma patients face difficulty in breathing due

to poor air quality. In the last few years , the  number of  asthma  patients has risen.

India is abode to 21 of the world's 30 most polluted cities. In India, air pollution was responsible for around 1.67 million (95%) deaths in 2019, accounting for 17.8% of all deaths. The majority of these deaths were caused by contaminants in theair. Air pollution is a severe problem in megacthese where ppollution level exceeds permitted limits, posing a healthrisk to residents. Due to the pollution, urban cities are subject to hazardous and unhygienic conditions.

 CHILDREN AT GREATER RISK

Children are at greater risk than adults from many adverse health effects of pollution. A study from Delhi says that every third child in Delhi has impaired lungs due to the high levels of pollution in air. Inhaled contaminants hamper the proper growth in children and adolescents.

 WHAT ARE OUR OPTIONS?

To improve air quality in India and to safeguard their future, our team decided to choose the theme- Air Pollution- SDG-3(GOOD HEALTH AND WELL-BEING). We  make a bold commitment to reduce the adverse effects of air pollution in the given time, ensuring the future of our citizens, children and people all over the world because the cha starts with you.
